Good Morning  –

Our mandatory entry night is steadily approaching, so I wanted to send you a bit of information. The entry night will be this next Monday, October 25th and you will need to sign up for a time slot on the sign up genius listed below. Entry night will be held in Room 510(Ms. McAlisters Room) in the CTE Building at Wylie High School. The shows we attend are listed below with dates, however please keep in mind the ones that are marked terminal you will not be able to bring your animal home and they will go on the truck no matter what. Please know the students social security number upon arriving for the entry night, it will be needed for most forms. Also, if you know your quality counts number bring it with you so we can put it on your entry form. If you do not know it, we can look it up for you. Below is information on completing quality counts if you are brand new to showing or you were a Jr. Member that is now a Senior member. Everyone must have a quality counts number, and if you need help completing it please let me know.

We are adding Ft. Worth this year, which was not done previously. This is what I call a “oversized jackpot/practice show”, it is really good practice to attend a major but is not terminal. I do recommend attending it if you plan on attending a major at all in your show career.

If you have not signed up for a timeslot for Entry Night for Monday, October 25th please use the following link to sign up ASAP: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/904044BABAB2BA7FA7-entry1

Important Show Dates:
Collin County Livestock Show – January 12th – 13th(Show Days); January 15th(Ribbon Sale Day)
  • The Ribbon Sale Day is where if you make the sale at the county show, you will go across the sale stage with your ribbon since your animal is not actually selling. Basically, a donation.)
  • More information will be sent out very soon in regards to a buyer letter to obtain a “buyer” for the county show.
Ft. Worth Livestock Show – January 24th – 28th
San Antonio Livestock Show(TERMINAL) – February 14th – 17th
Houston Livestock Show(TERMINAL) – March 7th – 10th

Quality Counts Testing Information –  Needs to be completed by November 1st
Registration Link - https://www.texaslivestockvalidation.com/qc/qcregister.aspx
Instructions for the Quality Counts course and testing is attached this this e-mail. This is for first year students, or students who were junior members last year but are senior members this year.
This can be a lengthy course, so please do not wait until the last minute to complete it. It must be completed by all students showing and is part of the entry process.

Other Important Reminders:
  • WISD students cannot participate in the Spooktacular Jackpot Show that is put on by WSS. Students must participate in volunteering for the jackpot, or you will forfeit your ability to show at the WSS.
  • Please make sure you are notifying myself or Ms. Turner if you are attending jackpots, that is a non-negotiable. It is stated in the Ag Handbook and Barn Contract, and if you do not follow the proper procedure you will receive a write up.
  • If you attend jackpots or take your animal somewhere, please disinfect your animal when you return. This can be done by washing the animal in an anti-fungal/anti-bacterial soap or spraying the animal down with ¼ bleach and ¾ water solution. It is imperative that you disinfect, because there is a fungus check at the county show and if fungus is found you will not show.
  • Students animals will not be allowed to leave the premises after December 1st – This is to help prevent getting fungus from jackpot shows or other locations. This means that your last weekend to jackpot will be November 27th. Please be checking your animals for fungus on a regular basis. This means running your hands around your animal and checking for raised or crusty spots. If you are unsure of a spot please reach out to Ms. Turner or myself and can check it. Also – If you are unsure of how to treat the fungus, please let us know so we can help you.
  • We have a weigh in/clinic next Thursday on October 28th from 4:30pm-6:00pm.
  • If you are planning on attending the November 6th jackpot, we will be attending the one in McKinney that day. Please sign up using this link so we know what trailer to bring: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/904044BABAB2BA7FA7-nov6th

We will have copies of all of these entry forms at the entry night and will be able to help you with them, I just wanted to go ahead and send them out for those that wanted to fill them out prior to speed up the process.
For each of the shows I will send out more information as they get closer with a list of what to bring, tentative schedule, etc. If you are new and need guidance, that is what I am here for and can answer any questions you have. I know this can be overwhelming and please know I am here to help!

Thank you for all your hard work! Have a great weekend! J
